We had a TEERRRRRRIIIIFFFIIICCCCCC week!

Miss Hawthorne went to Disney World last weekend for her best friend's wedding! Sorry we did not update last week! Here are some pics from her trip!

Last week we....

• had a substitute for 2 days! 
• started learning Money. 
• Ms. Matthys came to visit! 
• had DOLPHINFEST! 
• went to Mrs. Brown's class to meet her new Guinea Pigs, Humphrey and Dexter. 
• went to the Computer Lab and researched animals!
• learned long i words. We spell long i with ie, i_e, igh, y
• learned cause and effect! 

This week we...

• celebrated Jade's BIRTHDAY!!! 
• made Lions rooooaaaaaaarrrrrrr
• had library and computer lab. 
• are having a Jack-o-lantern jump rope contest! 
• held Humphrey the guinea pig! 
• watched the Double Unders perform. (Jump rope team) 
• continued Daily 5! 
• learned about 1/2 dollars and continued learning how to count money! 
• earned 4 green cones at lunch....WE ARE SOOOO CLOSE TO 5! Maybe next week...
• had 2 friends go see Taylor Swift in concert! EXCITING! They shared pictures!
• continued with our phonemic awareness activities! 
• started new vocabulary word of the day! This week we learned the words: rambunctious, clever, nibble, clench, inquire, monotone, abdomen, generous. INQUIRE about these at home! :)
• Miss Hawthorne decorated a "wonderful pumpkin" with melted crayon.
• saw different coins from Canada worth 2 dollars and the US dollar coin thanks to a student! :)
• learned long o words. We spell long o with oa, oe, o_e, ow, o
• continued our 3 part stories. 
• started biographies. A biography is a book or article about someone's life. 
• We had lunch bunch again for the tables who are earning tallies for SHARP behavior. 
• learned about light sources!

This week we...

• made haunted houses! 
• didn't come to school Monday! 
• wrote haunted house cinquain poems.
• wrote creative stories about going on an adventure! 
• continued sparkle words!
• had picture day! 
• read the book Monster Baby. 
• drew the Santa Maria that was a ship that was part of Christopher Columbus's exploration.
• went to the library and learned about Non-fiction and Fiction stories! 
• went to computer lab and learned about reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. 
• made a timeline of Christopher Columbus.
• got a new student! :) 
• learned place value! 
• only got 2 green cones at lunch this week :(! BIG SADNESS!  We are working for all 5 GREEN cones! Maybe we can accomplish this next week! 
• started studying Eric Carle books! 
• are updating our blog. 
• learned the difference between a verb and an adjective. A verb is an action word and an adjective is a describing word! 
• learned long e words in spelling. The 6 ways to make the long e sound are e_e, ee, ea, ie, ey, y.
• continued Daily 5!

We followed a grid map to make a haunted house picture!

We wrote cinquain Haunted House poems!

Who knew we could learn place value with beans?!

We were creative and made Haunted Houses to go with our poems!

We used our listening skills to draw the Santa Maria for Columbus Day! The kids are artists!!

This week we...

• had Mrs. Matthys come speak to us about big and little problems. 
• went to the Computer Lab on Monday and practiced our map reading skills. 
• learned about maps! 
• learned how to read maps! 
• made our own map of our classroom and then we hid things and drew a map to our hidden location.
• read Me on the Map! 
• continued to learn our sparkle words! 
• did spelling! We learned that there are 5 different ways to make the long a sound. The 5 ways are: ay, a_e, eigh, ea, ai. 
• read some poems. 
• learned about story plots!
• earned 4 green cones at lunch. We are aiming for all 5 next week. :) :) :) :)

Next week we do NOT have school on Monday. It is parent/teacher conference day. Enjoy the long weekend! If I have not met with you yet, I will see you Monday!
