We were as sharp as a pencil this week!

This week we....
  • went to the library and checked out books! 
  • went to the computer lab and continued learning touch typing skills. 
  • Jake and Avery shared their fish with us! 
  • Kate made us Origami Ninja stars. 
  • celebrated Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday Monday by not coming to school! :)
  • We only got 3 green cones this week. We ALMOST made it to all 4 green cones, but got a yellow cone Friday. Miss Hawthorne is VERRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYY sad about this. Maybe next week! 
  • We continued daily 5 stations. Kendal's favorite was read to someone station 3. 
  • We have started TPRI and DRA testing. 
  • We are searching for compound words in Read to Self station 2 (Kamaria's favorite!) 
  • We learned about what it means to be a peacemaker like Dr. King and wrote about how we are peacemakers!
  • Made our own "No David!" stories and made our "David" figures. 
  • studied Rocks and Minerals. We observed and described our rocks using the 4 properties. The 4 properties are luster, texture, color, hardness. 
  • sang songs into the microphones at music! We have some awesome singers! 
  • at music we sang "Puff the Magic Dragon" and sang a rap song. 
  • started reading "Miss Daisy is Crazy". It is a FUNNY book! 
  • we are going to PE today and are doing gymnastics! That was Miss Hawthorne's favorite thing about PE when she was in school. Eden likes it because she gets to take her shoes off!
  • learned a new math game where we time ourselves with our math facts! 
  • friends are still attending Math Pentathalon
  • are continuing to learn subtraction with regrouping with 2 digit numbers!
  • were detectives and identified nouns, verbs, noun markers, and noun completers in our sentences!

    We had a cold week in the Winter Wonderland!!

    This week we....
    • celebrated Eden's birthday! 
    • get to take home our Africa dioramas.
    • are making clay cupcakes in art. 
    • are going on a field trip on January 31st to Paramount Theaters! 
    • had a class lunch bunch! 
    • have no school on Monday because it is MLK day! 
    • had computer lab on Monday where we learned typing skills. 
    • finished our New Years Resolutions. 
    • Ms. Matthys came to visit to talk to us about manners. 
    • started up Daily 5 again! 
    • learned new sight words. 
    • are learning subtracting with regrouping. 
    • wrote Winter similes. Similes are a comparison of 2 things using the word like or as. 
    • started learning about landforms in science. 
    • learned about nouns. 
    • learned new games for daily 5. One was a making words with dice game (like Yahtzee) and one was a compound word game. A compound word is 2 words put together to make one word. Ask your kids to name some compound words for you.
    • presented our treasures. 
    • learned about generating ideas for writing based on our own experiences and stories. 
    • have friends still going to Math Pentathalon.

    Did you have a Spectacular Winter Break??

    I hope everyone had a very restful break! I know I did!

    This week we...

    • saw pictures of Ms. Garry's new baby boy! 
    • saw pictures of Ms. Hawthorne's new dog, Comet. 
    • got the hermit crabs out! Those pinchers are scary! (or atleast to Miss Hawthorne)
    • went to music and PE. 
    • saw a shell that Kyra shared with us. 
    • had some friends go to Math Pentathalon. 
    • wrote stories in our writing journals and talked about generating ideas for what to write about. 
    • talked about our Winter Break and we made a Wordle. 
    • did not do daily 5 :(. That will start again next week. :)
    • wrote our good habits and bad habits. We threw away our BAD habits! ONLY GOOD HABITS THIS YEAR! :)
    • got 2 green cones at lunch. :) :) :) 
    • made New Years Resolutions. 
    • reviewed addition with regrouping in math.
    • only had 2 days of school!!!! 
    • read to ourselves for 20 minutes! :) 
    • into the 80th day of school. We are approaching 100! 
    • re-read Where The Wild Things Are and talked about how we think Maurice Sendek got his idea to write his story.
